Pollensa Old Town and Country Side

The ‘Old’ Town is a bewitching destination that absolutely represents ‘authentic’ Mallorca, the center is a maze of narrow paved streets, the central market square, perhaps the most charming in all of Mallorca, oozes history and tradition; it is the central meeting place for locals and visitors alike, and venue to the colorful weekly Sunday morning market. A place to catch up on the gossip, share tapas and drinks with friends, to write, to paint, to photograph, etc. there  is always something going on.

The town has more than its fair share of architectural monuments including five wonderful churches, museum, cloisters, and town palaces, which if you are lucky enough to get a peek into open up to pools and fabulous patio gardens. The town is lively all year round, with great shops, charming bars and a vast choice of good restaurants. A must is a glass of good local wine and tapas, perfect at any hour of the day. Pollensa is an extraordinary town, with something for everyone. The town is the ideal starting point for many a great hike, by foot or on horseback, its charismatic wild nature is the inspiration of photographers, artists and writers alike.

The entire area is flanked by the Tramuntana peaks and the magical mount ‘Puig Maria’ emblematic throughout the ages and distinguishable from far and wide. Without doubt Pollensa is one of the most beautiful areas in the whole of Mallorca, and remains a perpetual inspiration to the creative. Culture runs deep, and Pollensa’s past is full of legends and ancient history, marauding Moors, the influence of the Knights Templars, and much earlier the Roman conquest just to mention a few eras. You will find that the town calendar is full of important celebrations, Catholic, pagan and historical, processions, mock battles, tree climbing marathons, etc.   The town celebrates an International Music Festival every summer, and is home to an abundance of Art Galleries, local artists and craftsmen (ceramics and textile).  For the children the great outdoors is one enormous attraction, beach, mountains, woodland and good weather (300 days of the year). Cycling, golf, tennis, climbing, yoga and an unending list of sporting / relaxing activities are available.

Local products are delicious, local wine, olives, oil, meat products, figs, oranges all so much a part of life here. Majorcans are great lovers of all that is homegrown and traditional dishes made from those products. Out in the country side and gorgeous valleys are beautiful villas and fincas (country property), their gardens home to ancient olive trees, carob trees and the generous fig trees that impregnate the summer air with their aromas, flashes of color from vivid bougainvilleaand hibiscus.
